Exporting your data

Everything you build in Maelo is yours, and you can take a copy of it whenever you like. Open Account, Data & Privacy and tap Download my data. Maelo gathers your records and hands you a single file to save.

The file is named for the day you took it, so you can keep several and tell them apart. It is a plain text file in JSON format, which spreadsheets and most tools can read, and which you can hand to an accountant or to another system without anything being locked up.

What is in the file

The export is deliberately complete rather than a summary. It contains your profile and settings, your clients, every booking request and the messages on it, your appointments, your pages, your flash pieces and categories, your notes, your income and expenses, your locations and time off, your calendar connections and your notification settings. Completed waivers are included too.

Two things are left out on purpose. The keys that connect Maelo to your Google, Outlook or iCloud calendar are never exported, because a copy of them sitting in your downloads folder is a risk with no upside. Signature images and the audit details attached to a waiver are also stripped.

Deleting your account

Closing your account lives at the bottom of Account, Account Info, under Delete account. Take your export first. Once the process finishes there is nothing left to export.

   Step 1: Tap Delete account

   Maelo explains what is about to happen and asks, optionally, why you are leaving. The reason is genuinely optional and you can skip it.

   Step 2: Choose when

   Pick In 30 days (the default, which you can still cancel) or Now, which starts straight away and cannot be undone.

   Step 3: Type DELETE and confirm the code

   Type DELETE, tap Email me a code, then enter the 6-digit code we send to your account email. This works whether or not you use a password.

The 30 days after you ask

If you chose 30 days, nothing is erased until the date shown. That window exists because people change their minds, and an account closed in anger on a Friday is often wanted back on the Monday.

To call it off, sign in and open Account, Account Info. Where the delete button was, you will see the deletion date and a Keep my account button. We email you when deletion is scheduled and again when it is complete, with a confirmation code you can check on the deletion status page.

The bottom of the Data & Privacy panel links the three documents that govern your account. They open in a new tab and are worth a read before you close anything.
