Your link, and the @ that makes it work

Your page lives at maelo.app/@yourname. That is the whole address, and it is the one thing to get right when you write it down or hand it out.

The @ is part of the link, not decoration. Leave it off and the address does not reach your page at all, so maelo.app/yourname is not a shorter version of your link, it is a broken one. Always write the @.

Your other pages hang off the same address. Your booking form is at maelo.app/@yourname/booking and your flash page at maelo.app/@yourname/flash. Note that the booking one is booking, not book.

Warning

Never type your link out from memory when it matters. Copy it. In the editor, the copy button sits beside the address bar at the top of the page, and Settings, General lists every link you have under Your Links.

Getting it live

A page is not on the web until you publish it. Everything you build saves as a draft, and the blue Publish button at the top right is what pushes it out. Publish writes all of your pages at once, so you never have to remember which ones you changed.

Once a page is out and matches what you are looking at, the button becomes a green Live badge. To see the state of every page at once, open the three dots menu, choose Settings, then Pages. Each row shows Live or Draft, with an amber dot when a live page has changes you have not published yet.

Page Live in the three dots menu is the master switch for the page you are on. Turn it off and visitors cannot reach it, no matter how many times you publish. That is how you take one page down without taking the rest of your site with it.

Sharing it

Your link is designed to be the one in your Instagram bio. Copy it from the editor or from Your Links in Settings, and paste it into the website field on your profile. Instagram will show it as a tappable link, and the @ survives the paste as long as you copied rather than retyped.

If you want people to skip straight to booking, share the booking address instead. It works everywhere: a story sticker, a message reply, printed on a card, an email signature. When someone shares your link in a chat app, the preview picks up your name, your bio and your profile image.

•Bio link: your home page, so people can look before they book.
•Story or DM reply: your booking page, because they are already interested.
•Your own website: embed the form instead, covered in embedding on your own website.

Changing your username

Your username is the @yourname part, and you change it in Settings, General under Profile Information. It has to be 3 to 30 characters, using lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores, and it has to be one nobody else has taken.

Warning

Changing your username changes every link you have ever shared. Old ones stop working immediately, including the one in your bio, on your cards and in past messages. It is worth doing early and then leaving alone.

Changing a page address

The part after your username is a page's own address, and you can change it. Right-click the page tab, or press and hold it on a phone, and choose Change URL. The dialog shows you exactly what the new address will be before you commit.

Links between your own pages update themselves, so your navigation bar keeps working. Any link you shared to the old address stops working, so treat it the same way as changing your username. Your home page always sits at the root of your link, so it has no address to change.

When the link does not work

Almost every broken link comes down to one of four things, in this order of likelihood.

•The @ is missing. Check the address character by character. This is by far the most common one.
•You have not published. Open the editor and look for the green Live badge. If it still says Publish, press it.
•The page is hidden. Check Page Live in the three dots menu, and the Pages tab in Settings for the rest.
•The address after your username is wrong. Booking is booking, and if you renamed a page its address may have changed with it.

Note

A visitor who reaches a page you have not built yet gets a friendly message and a link back to your main page, rather than a dead end. It still looks unfinished, so it is worth fixing rather than leaving.
