Account, username and password

Set your username and public link, change your email, password and two-factor.

01

Your username

Your username is your public address. Your page lives at maelo.app/@yourname, and your booking form and flash board hang off the same address. It is the thing you put in your Instagram bio, so it is worth picking one you will still like in a year.

You set it in General, Profile Info, in the field prefixed with maelo.app/@. It can be 3 to 30 characters long and can use lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores. No spaces, no capital letters, no @. Usernames are unique, so if someone already has the one you want you will be told it is taken.

Warning

Changing your username changes your public link, and the old one stops working immediately. Anything already pointing at the old address goes to a page that no longer exists: your Instagram bio, business cards, a booking link a client saved, a QR code on a flyer. Update them before you change it, not after.
02

The names clients see

The same panel holds three name fields, and they do different jobs. First Name and Last Name are your real name. Preferred Name is optional and is the casual name clients see in emails and booking confirmations, so Jonathan can be Jay without changing anything else. If you leave it blank, your first name is used.

Profile Photo and Professional Logo sit above the name fields. The photo is your everyday picture, used for things like chat inside Maelo. The logo is your brand mark and is what appears on your public page and your communications. Both are best at 400 by 400 pixels.

Changing your email

Your email address is your login, and it lives in Account, Account Info. Tap Change next to Email, type the new address and tap Update email.

This is a request, not an instant swap. Maelo emails your current address so you can approve the change, then emails the new address so you can confirm it. Your login only changes once both links are clicked, which is what stops someone who has borrowed your screen from quietly moving your account to their own inbox.

Note

Nothing is sent if the new address already belongs to a Maelo account. If no email arrives at all, that is the likely reason.
04

Changing your password

In the same panel, tap Change next to Password. You need your current password, then the new one twice. New passwords must be at least 12 characters, and there is a strength meter as you type.

When the change goes through, every other device signed in to your account is signed out. You stay signed in where you are. Your password manager will usually offer to save the new password at that point, so let it.

05

Two-factor authentication

Two-Factor Auth adds a six-digit code from an authenticator app on top of your password. It is the single best thing you can do to protect an account that holds your clients' details and your payouts. Flip the switch in Account Info to start.

  1. 1

    Confirm it is you

Enter your password and tap Continue.
  2. 2

    Scan the code

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, then type the six-digit code it shows and tap Verify.
  3. 3

    Save your backup codes

Maelo shows a set of backup codes. Tap Copy codes and put them somewhere safe, then tap Done. Each code works once, and they are how you get back in if you lose your phone.

To turn it off, flip the switch back and enter your password again.

06

Logging out

Log out sits near the bottom of Account Info and signs out the device you are on. To sign out a device you are not holding, use Devices instead, which lists everything currently signed in.
